SHOP OF THE MONTH PROFILE: Lucy’s Bead Boutique

Almost everyone will agree that there’s nothing like a day at the shore, no matter what season it is. There’s something about the fresh sea air and beauty of the ocean that draws all of us. And for beaders, what could be better than having a bead shop to explore while surrounded by all this beautiful inspiration. Well, we beaders are in luck! Lucy’s Bead Boutique located at 1889 New Jersey Route 88, Suite 6, Brick, NJ 08724 is a haven for both locals and out of area visitors alike. It’s obvious that the local county agrees that Lucy’s is an exceptional venue, the shop has been named “Best of Ocean County” in the arts and crafts section for three years in a row! The “BEST OF THE BEST” award is given based on votes through the Asbury Park Press print and online newspaper. People have a month to vote by writing in the store they want to vote for and the winners are announced every year in the beginning of November.

Lucy’s shop is currently open from noon to 5:00 PM Thursday through Sunday and closed Monday through Wednesday. Lucy’s is a very friendly, welcoming place to visit. As you walk up to her shop, you’ll notice the nice big windows that allow tons of marvelous natural light to flood her shop. Nothing beaders love more than great light! And as you enter the store, you will always be greeted by Lucy or one of many knowledgeable and friendly beaders. Before you get distracted by all the walls and displays of beads and crystals and findings, take a look at Lucy’s very creative front beading table. It is gorgeous and ingenious. That incredible beading table is always available to beaders anytime, any day. You can bring what you are currently working on or you can purchase one of her many kits to work on. You can even purchase some beads and get a free pattern to go with the purchase.

Off the main beading room, is a very large classroom. Lucy is proud to have the most amazing teachers including those who have taught at Bead & Button, Bead Fest, have their own Etsy sites, a teacher/inventor, and she currently has a Trendsetter on her Team. Lucy’s bead store offers adult classes from beginner level all the way up to advanced beader levels. Lucy also offers make and take kits plus a vast array of beads for all your projects. The classes are a combination of a venue for creating beautiful jewelry and great social events where kindred spirits gather to share their love of beading. It doesn’t get better than that unless you have been to her store where they are known for their beading kits. When you visit, Just pick up a kit, sit down and bead at that wonderful, magical beading table bathed in bright natural light. You will quickly be transported to beader heaven!

When the pandemic shuttered small area businesses, Lucy decided to take her business a step further by allowing her beading friends to purchase bead supplies and kits online. Lucy Bacon is the owner of Lucy’s Bead Boutique. She has been in the bead business for over 10 years. Her love of beads and color is demonstrated when you walk into the newer larger store with its separate room for classes. To prove her love of beads, the shop offers over 1,000 different colors of the most popular size 11/0 round and delica Toho and Miyuki seed beads. A vast array of size 15/0, 8/0, and 6/0 Toho and Miyuki seed beads are also offered. Colorfully coated Czech seed beads are also available and updated regularly as new beads are released. Along with seed beads, Lucy’s carries a large selection of Czech 2-hole shaped beads (too many to mention), Swarovski Crystals and Pearls and a wall of pressed glass beads. Displayed on racks throughout the store are a host of findings, tools, etc. Lucy has started transitioning the findings she offers to those made in the USA.
